'Rally in the Valley' set for Friday night in Rec Hall

University Park, Pa. — The Blue & White Society and Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics are teaming up to host the traditional "Rally in the Valley" football pep rally Friday, Nov. 21 in Rec Hall in anticipation of Saturday's showdown between No. 8 Penn State and No. 15 Michigan State.

The rally will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m., immediately following the women's volleyball match between unbeaten and No. 1 ranked Penn State and Northwestern at 7 p.m. The Nittany Lions are 28-0 overall and 16-0 in Big Ten play, and with their next victory, would earn their sixth consecutive outright conference title.

The 2007 NCAA Champions, Penn State has not lost a set this season and has won an NCAA record 54 consecutive matches.

The winner of the Penn State (10-1, 6-1) vs. Michigan State (9-2, 6-1) football game will earn no worse than a share of the Big Ten Championship. With a win, the Nittany Lions would earn the Big Ten's automatic berth into the Bowl Championship Series and become the fourth Penn State squad to win the conference title this fall, joining field hockey, women's soccer and women's volleyball.

Coach Joe Paterno, the football team, cheerleaders and the Nittany Lion will be among the participants at the "Rally in the Valley."

Tickets for the volleyball match are $5 for adults, $3 for youth and $2 per person for groups of 10 or more. Penn State students are free with their PSU ID. The top-ranked Nittany Lions conclude regular season home competition on Saturday, hosting Wisconsin at 8 p.m.

Tickets for both matches will be available at the door until capacity is reached.

The Penn State-Michigan State game will be regionally televised on ABC, with coverage on ESPN elsewhere in the nation. The contest also will air on the Penn State Sports Network and www.GoPSUsports.com, the official website of Penn State Athletics.
