Diverse speakers to highlight IST Graduate Symposium

University Park, Pa. -- The director of search at LinkedIn, a leader of ExxonMobil, and the chief scientist at Twitter are just a few of the keynote speakers who will highlight the 2009 Graduate Symposium in the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST), to be held Feb. 19-20 at the Nittany Lion Inn.

Igor Perisic, director of search with social networking tool LinkedIn, will share his thoughts on the field of social networks and network analysis; Adam Usadi, a leader in supply chain optimization for ExxonMobil, will talk about the role of IT in the energy sector; and Abdur Chowdhury, Twitter’s chief scientist, will conclude the keynote speaker series by discussing the latest in the Twitter world.

In addition to the keynote lectures, the symposium will feature presentations from graduate students in the College of IST. There will also be panels and demonstrations moderated by IST industry partners, covering topics from IT globalization to service science.

Going into its fourth year, the two-day, student-run symposium is themed, “Information, Technology, People” for 2009. The event will be held at the Nittany Lion Inn on the University Park campus. Hosted by the College of IST, the symposium is designed to explore and showcase the interdisciplinary work and research being conducted in the college.
