Free heart smart events coming to Hershey

As part of its mission to reach out to the communities it serves in central Pennsylvania, Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center will host the following free public events on various heart health topics throughout February:

  • 7 p.m. Feb. 11 - Girl’s Night Out -- Love Your Own Heart
    A discussion by women about unique heart health issues faced by women. Includes healthy cooking demonstration and sampling.
    Speakers: Jennifer Ting, M.D., and Deborah Wolbrette, M.D.
  • 7 p.m. Feb. 19 - Wellness -- A State of Mind
    A cardiologist and a psychiatrist talk about what can be done to address physical and emotional risk factors for heart disease. Includes a healthy cooking demonstration and sampling.
    Speakers: Peter Alagona, M.D., and Mark Rapp, M.D.
  • 7 p.m. Feb. 26 - Smoking and Heart Disease -- What’s the Connection?
    People know smoking causes cancer, but it may damage the heart first. Learn why and how to break the habit with strength and support. Light refreshments will be offered.
    Speakers: Jennifer Toth, M.D., and Margaret Weeter, R.R.T.

These events will take place in the University Conference Center in the West Campus Health and Wellness Center adjacent to Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Free, convenient parking is available near the entrance.
