Obtaining an academic verification

University Park, Pa. -- Insurance companies, financial lenders or employers may require proof that a student was or is currently enrolled at Penn State. An academic verification provides proof of enrollment, graduation, student status, and other related information.

Immediate verification of a student’s enrollment or degree is provided at no charge through the Registrar’s Web site (see www.registrar.psu.edu and select "Verify Enrollment/Degree Immediately"). Currently enrolled students may use the "Academic Verification" application in eLion (http://elion.psu.edu/) to request an academic verification. After viewing the screen, the student may print an unofficial copy and mail it to the requesting agency. Or the student may request an official verification, containing the University Registrar’s signature on security paper, which will be mailed to the specified address via first-class U.S. mail on the next business day.

This same function is now available to parents via the eLion Parent/Other menu.  However, parents must first be granted access by their student as follows:
Step 1. Parent obtains a Penn State User ID through a "Friends of Penn State" account if they do not have a current Penn State access account. Go to eLion.psu.edu and select "Parent/Other." Click on "Create an Account" and follow the instructions to obtain your "Friends of Penn State" User ID.
Step 2. Parent provides their student with their Penn State User ID.
Step 3. The student grants their parent access by logging into eLion.psu.edu, selecting "Parent/Other Access" on the left-hand menu, clicking "Continue," and following the directions to grant access to the Academic Verification.

Due to the volume of requests received, the Office of the University Registrar is unable to complete agency supplied verification forms. Rather, the official University academic verification statement can be attached to the original agency supplied form.

For more information on Academic Verifications, please visit the Registrar’s Office web site at http://www.registrar.psu.edu or contact the Office at (814) 865-6357.
