Lady Lions win, clinch playoff spot

The Penn State Greater Allegheny Lady Lions defeated Penn State Mont Alto, 78-60, on Saturday. The win put the team in the PSUAC tournament for the second year in a row.  Freshman Rachel Halaszynski (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) led the way with her eighth straight double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.  Sophomore Chanelle Quallis (East Orange, N.J./Arts) also had a double-double with 22 points and 11 boards.
 
The Lady Lions are now 11-10 overall and 9-3 in the PSUAC.  They will host Penn State DuBois at 6 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 12).
  

Greater Allegheny defeats Mont Alto in overtime
 
After trailing the entire game, Penn State Greater Allegheny made a huge comeback on Saturday night (Feb. 7) and defeated Penn State Mont Alto, 73-65, in overtime. Freshman Rocky Washington (Duquesne, Pa./ West Mifflin) had a career-high 24 points in leading the Lions to victory. The win puts the team at 8-15 overall and 8-6 in the PSUAC. The Lions will host Penn State DuBois at 8 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 12).
 
 
Penn State Greater Allegheny to celebrate Think Pink on Saturday
 
The Penn State Greater Allegheny Lady Lions will celebrate “Think Pink” Night on Saturday (Feb. 12) in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness. The team will wear pink T-shirts during their pregame warm-ups and pink wristbands during the game. Fans will have the opportunity to donate money to the Susan B. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
 
Women rise again in coaches poll
 
The Penn State Greater Allegheny women’s basketball team is ranked 17th in this week’s USCAA Coaches Poll. They were ranked 20th last week. The Lady Lions have won six of their last eight games.
