Assistant professor of art education wins early career award

University Park, Pa. -- Stephanie Springgay, assistant professor of art education and women's studies, has been awarded the 2009 Critical Issues in Curriculum and Cultural Studies Early Career Award from the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and will receive it in April at the AERA annual business meeting in San Diego, Calif.

Springgay received her Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in 2004. Her current research and artistic explorations focus on issues of relationality and youth civic engagement. She is the author of "Body Knowledge and Curriculum: Pedagogies of Touch in Youth and Visual Culture," (2007), and the co-editor with Debra Freedman of "Curriculum and the Cultural Body," (2007), both published by Peter Lang Pub., Inc.
