Mechanical engineering student Wilburne wins achieving woman award

Senior mechanical engineering student Brianne Wilburne was selected as the 2009 Penn State Commission for Women Achieving Undergraduate Woman.

The Achieving Undergraduate Woman award is open to any undergraduate women from any major at any Penn State campus.

Some of Wilburne's activities include participation in the Women in Engineering Program and the Society for Women Engineers. She is currently president of the student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Wilburne was recently presented with the Thomas Briggs Hunter Memorial Award for Student Leadership at the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering 2009 Senior Recognition Banquet.

Wilburne's nomination was submitted by Cheryl Knobloch, associate director of the Women in Engineering Program, and supported by Eric Marsh, professor of mechanical engineering. The award will be formally presented at the Commission for Women Third Annual Awards Luncheon on April 10.
