Terrorism expert to speak about women suicide bombers

University Park, Pa. — Mia Bloom, author of "Dying to Kill: The Allure of Suicide Terror," will give the inaugural lecture on April 3, for the International Speaker Series, sponsored by the International Center for the Study of Terrorism in Penn State's College of the Liberal Arts. Her talk, "Bombshell: Rise of the Female Suicide Terrorist," will be at 7 p.m. in Boardroom I of the Nittany Lion Inn, on the University Park campus.

A former term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, she is author of the upcoming books: "Bombshell Women" and "Terror and Gendercide: The Strategic Logic of Rape and War." In addition to her research on terrorism, Bloom conducts research on ethnic conflict, the strategic use of rape in war, and child soldiers. She has a doctorate in political science from Columbia University, a masters in Arab studies from Georgetown University, and a bachelor's degree from McGill University in Russian and Middle East studies.
