Five Penn State Berks students have recently been awarded the Osher Foundation Reentry Scholarship: Tracy Allen, elementary and kindergarten education; David Ecenrode, workforce education; Christopher Garipoli, organizational leadership; Gregory Lund, information sciences and technology; and Erin Macknight, Division of Undergraduate Studies.
Recipient Tracy Allen explains how the Osher Re-entry Scholarship will help her reach her goal of becoming an inspirational educator. “If I can accomplish all the goals I have set, despite some obstacles, I can guide my future students toward attaining their individual dreams by educating and encouraging them as they learn and mature.”
The Bernard Osher Foundation, headquartered in San Francisco, was founded in 1977 by Bernard Osher, a respected businessman and community leader. The Foundation seeks to improve quality of life through support for higher education and the arts. The Foundation provides post-secondary scholarship funding to colleges and universities across the nation, with special attention to reentry students.
The Osher Foundation Re-entry Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree who have completed at least twelve credits in a degree-seeking program, are between twenty-five and fifty years of age, have a cumulative gap in their education of at least five years, demonstrate a financial need, and show academic promise and commitment to obtaining a bachelor’s degree.
