University Park, Pa. — The 2009 WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State proudly supported by Mimi Barash Coppersmith was once again a success in the fight against breast cancer as the Lady Lions raised $32,319.78 for three breast cancer charities. Monies raised will be donated to the following organizations: Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. The inaugural Pink Zone Day in 2007 earned $20,490.95 and the 2008 Pink Zone event raised $31,127.58.
The Lady Lions had a fun-filled Pink Zone event against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday, Feb. 15 to honor breast cancer survivors and draw awareness to breast cancer. Fans received a pink hat and pink rally towel at the gates and there was a special survivor presentation at halftime by Tammy Miller, the author of "The Lighter Side of Breast Cancer Recovery: Lessons Learned Along the Path to Healing."
