Professor accepted into Fulbright Scholars Program

Sandra Harbert Petrulionis, professor of English and American Studies, has been selected as a Senior Lecturer by the Fulbright Scholars Program, the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars.

Each year, the Fulbright Scholar Program provides 800 U.S. faculty and professionals with the opportunity to lecture and conduct research abroad in a wide variety of academic and professional fields; grantees are chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential, with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.

Petrulionis will teach two or three graduate and undergraduate courses in 19th-century American literature and culture at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena in Germany, from March-July 2010. Petrulionis says this opportunity "offers me the chance to share my love of American literary studies with an international audience. But I'm also extremely excited by the chance to learn from these students and to further my understanding of my own field."This is Petrulionis's first application to the Fulbright Scholars Program.
