Presentation to focus on accessibility in online education

What are the best practices in online learning that enhance accessibility for students with disabilities? This topic will be examined in a presentation from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on April 20, titled "Accessibility in Online Education." The event will be held in Foster Auditorium, 101 Pattee Library, and is co-sponsored by the Penn State World Campus, Library Services for Persons with Disabilities, the Office for Disability Services and Teaching and Learning with Technology, a unit of Information Technology Services.

Several Penn State accessibility experts will address Penn State's policies, practices and standards concerning the accessibility of online courses. They will also talk about how to select technology that assists in creating user-friendly and accessible learning environments

The presenters come from a number of Penn State departments, each offering a unique perspective and area of expertise. They are William Welsh, director, Office for Disability Services; Christian Vinten-Johansen, information technology manager, Information Technology Services; Elizabeth Pyatt, instructional designer, Information Technology Services; Susan Hayya, coordinator of Library Services for Persons with Disabilities, University Libraries; Mary Ramsey, manager and research programmer, Information Technology Services; and Anita Colyer Graham, manager of access, World Campus.
