Goas named EIVA Player of the Week

University Park, Pa. — Penn State men's volleyball redshirt freshman setter Edgardo Goas (San Juan, Puerto Rico) has been named the EIVA Player of the Week, conference officials announced. The award is the first of Goas' career and is the seventh for a Nittany Lion as senior middle hitter Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) has three honors this season while junior middle hitter Max Lipsitz (Williamsville, N.Y.) garnered the award on Jan. 27, junior outside hitter Will Price (Gaithersburg, Md.) was honored on March 9 and sophomore libero Dennis Del Valle (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) picked up the accolade on March 16.

Goas directed the Nittany Lion offense to two three-game sweeps of top 15 opponents on the road last weekend. At No. 15 Ball State, Goas had four players with nine or more kills while the team hit .395 for the match. He dished out 37 assists against the Cardinals and added in five digs, the second-highest amount on the squad, and also provided one block. At No. 11 Ohio State, Goas had three players with 13 kills each as the team hit .500 for the match, also providing 43 assists, two digs and four blocks. For the weekend, Goas had five players average more than 2.33 kills per game with no less than 14 kills as the team hit a combined .448 through two matches, and individually he averaged 13.33 assists per game while adding seven digs and five blocks.

The Nittany Lions have a bye in the EIVA Quarterfinals on April 25 and then host the EIVA Semifinals at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. The EIVA Championship will be 7:30 p.m. on  Saturday, May 2 at Rec Hall, with the winner earning an automatic berth in the NCAA National Collegiate Semifinals on Thursday, May 7 in Provo, Utah. The NCAA National Collegiate Championship is slated for Saturday, May 9 in Provo, Utah.
