Pathways program encourages young women to pursue STEM careers

University Park, Pa. -- Seventh grade girls from more than 26 schools participated in Pathways to Your Future: Exploring STEM Careers on Friday, May 8 at Penn State York.

The program, in its 13th year, is designed for seventh grade girls to encourage them to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers.  This was a record-breaking year for the program with 231 students, 30 teachers, and 15 parents participating. Participants attend workshops covering a wide range of topics from meteorology to the science of color in cosmetics, and the future of hand held computing. The program also provides teachers with information to guide young women toward career opportunities in STEM fields.
