Abington offers STEM related summer camps for kids and teens

Penn State Abington’s offering of summer camps--better known as Kids and Teen College--is loaded with cutting edge, in-demand, and in-the-news STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) week-long camps.

According to the Pennsylvania STEM Initiative--one of six U.S. public/private partnerships aimed at increasing the number of people in STEM careers--by 2016, more than 65,000 jobs in a wide range of fields will require a background in science. "What better place to start driving an interest in science than at summer camp?" asked Deanna Bosley, coordinator of Abington’s summer camp program. "At least that’s our thought behind the wide range of STEM camps in this year’s Kids and Teen College brochure."

"Chemistry Investigators," "Math Options for Girls,"  "Exploring Engineering,"  "Castles and Catapults," and "Creating Computer Games," are only a few of the Penn State Abington STEM camp offerings this summer. Perhaps "Fun with Veterinary Medicine," or "Rocking with Rocketry," or "Multi-Media Design," would be of interest to a budding scientist or techie? Whatever the interest, Penn State Abington is the place to be this summer for students entering grades 3 through 12.

"Our goal is to get kids excited about science and technology, and explore it in a fun way. Ultimately, planting a seed that can grow and perhaps bring them back to Penn State Abington as college students to continue their interest and turn it into a career," enthused Bosley.

Penn State Abington Kids and Teen College starts the week of June 22 and continues through the week of August 10. All camps are one week long, starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. For registration or more information please call (215) 881-7389 or (215) 881-7339/7388, or go online to www.abington.psu.edu/youthteen.
