July 10, 2009

New Kensington, Pa. — Penn State will purchase a 1.65 acre property adjacent to the west end of the University Park campus, following approval by the University's Board of Trustees Friday (July 10).

The property is located at the intersection of West College Avenue and Butz Street in Ferguson Township, near the Houts and Fischer properties, acquired by the University last year. The parcel includes a leased 11,000-square-foot commercial facility, parking improvements and two leased residential properties, said Al Horvath, senior vice president for finance and business/treasurer of the University. The leases in effect are expected to continue in the near term.

The acquisition from Craig and Kathleen Kissell for $2.5 million provides the University with future expansion opportunities.
