Student awarded prestigious Winston Fellowship

Devon Trolley, a recent graduate of the Master of Health Administration program, has been awarded a prestigious David A. Winston Health Policy Fellowship.

“This is the highest award a master's student in our field can win, and we are very proud of Devon for receiving this honor,” said Dennis G. Shea, head of the Department of Health Policy and Administration (HPA). “It's the second time in six years that a Penn State student has won it, which reaffirms the excellent quality of the HPA graduate program. This is a rare opportunity and an historic time for a student to work so closely with health policy leaders.”

Trolley is spending one year as a fellow in Washington, D.C. For the first three months of the fellowship, Trolley is visiting a variety of national health policy centers. Trolley will then choose her placement for the remaining nine months, where she will pursue a personal interest project with the guidance of key policy makers from the private and public sectors.

The fellowship is sponsored by the David A. Winston Health Policy Fellowship Board of Trustees, and it is administered in collaboration with the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. Fellows are given the opportunity to "learn about the political system through exposure to and experience with private and public sector roles in health policy creation," according to the Winston Fellowship Web site.

"I am truly honored to be selected as a Winston Fellow," said Trolley. "Beginning my career in an area that I am passionate about is an opportunity for which I am incredibly grateful. My education at Penn State gave me a solid base to build on as I gain a comprehensive perspective on national health policy."

Trolley, a native of Fairport, N.Y., was a Schreyer Scholar and received two degrees this year: a bachelor's degree in health policy and administration and a master of health administration degree.
