Professor named CIC Academic Leadership Program Fellow

Chester Ray, professor of medicine, and cellular and molecular physiology, has been selected to be a 2009-10 CIC Academic Leadership Program Fellow. The Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) is a consortium made up of the Big Ten universities and the University of Chicago that shares expertise, leverages campus resources, and collaborates on innovative programs. Ray is one of five Penn State faculty to be nominated.

Established in 1989, the Academic Leadership Program develops the leadership and managerial skills of faculty who have demonstrated exceptional ability and academic promise. Many of the programs’ nearly 1,000 fellows have gone on to serve with distinction as college presidents, provosts, and deans.

Ray will attend three seminars hosted by different CIC universities, the first in Septmeber at Michigan State University. The program is specifically oriented to address the challenges of academic administration at major research universities and to help faculty members prepare to meet them.
