Penn College faculty retiree contributes to textbooks' publication

Bonnie R. Taylor, who retired from Pennsylvania College of Technology’s School of Business and Computer Technologies at the end of the Spring 2009 semester, recently edited and/or reviewed four business-related textbooks.

Taylor was integral in preparing the fourth edition of “Business Communication, Building Critical Skills,” by the late Kitty O. Locker of Ohio State and Stephen Kyo Kaczmarek of Columbus State Community College. The book, which reinforces essential skills of good communication through 30 skill-centered modules, is published by McGraw-Hill/Irwin.

She also reviewed and edited the book’s yet-to-be-released fifth edition, written by Kaczmarek, and over the summer she completed an extensive follow-up analysis and review of each chapter.

Other publications that Taylor facilitated include the 2009-10 edition of “BCOM – Business Communication,” a student-tested, faculty-approved approach to teaching and learning that includes extensive interactive quizzes, flash cards and more. The text is authored by Carol M. Lehman of Mississippi State University and Debbie D. DuFrene of Stephen F. Austin State University, and is published by South-Western, a part of Cengage Learning.

Additionally, she was involved in publication of “Business Communication” by San Diego State University’s Marie Flatly and The University of Cincinnati’s Kathryn Rentz. The 2010 version is published by McGraw-Hill/Irwin.

Most recently an associate professor of business administration-management, Taylor also taught business communication, medical office technology and office information technology during her 36 years at Penn College and its predecessor, Williamsport Area Community College. She also was an internship coordinator, continuing to supervise students in the field after her retirement.

Taylor earned master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Bloomsburg University and has done postgraduate work at Penn State. She is an active member of the Pennsylvania Business Education Association and a strong supporter of the Future Business Leaders of America, annually volunteering as a judge at regional and state competitions.

She is a 16-year Montgomery Area School Board director, serving as treasurer for four years and as president for the past 12.
