Retired professor dies in auto accident

Retired professor Richard “Dick” Caram, 70, died on Aug. 11 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Caram received his master’s degree from Penn State University in the 1980s and served as an associate professor of theatre arts at Penn State Altoona. He often wrote and/or directed and produced performances for educational, professional and community theatre. He was a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and directed and produced plays for the Pennsylvania State Arts Council with Penn-Mont Academy. One such play, “Don Q and his Squire Sancho” was published in 2007 by Lazy Bee Scripts in the United Kingdom. After his retirement, Caram continued to work as a playwright, share his love for theatre and the arts with schoolchildren across the region, and play the drums with the jazz group, Cole.
