Penn State students can save on Center for the Performing Arts tickets

August 25, 2009

University Park, Pa. -- The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State is throwing a party -- complete with free food, entertainment and prizes -- for University Park students from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, on the Eisenhower Auditorium patio.

During the two-hour party, University Park students may purchase tickets to all 2009-10 Center for the Performing Arts presentations for 20 percent off the already-discounted student prices. The second annual Come Curious Patio Party also features a Guitar Hero Tournament championship round.

Presentations eligible for the Sept. 9 discount include the touring Broadway shows "Avenue Q," "Stomp" and "Mamma Mia!" Tap dance show Thank You, Gregory!, virtuoso guitarist Julian Lage, Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, Martha Graham Dance Company in Clytemnestra, Kronos Quartet performing Awakening, Sweet Honey in the Rock, the hip-hop dance show Groovaloo, Irish fiddler Eileen Ivers and Béla Fleck with guest musicians from Africa are also among the discount-eligible events.

For tickets, go to www.cpa.psu.edu and click on EVENTS for complete details about the 26 music, theater and dance presentations in the September through April season at Eisenhower and Schwab auditoriums.

For more details about the Come Curious Patio Party and Guitar Hero Tournament, visit www.cpa.psu.edu and click on PATIO PARTY.

In order to purchase discounted tickets, a student must show his or her Penn State identification card. Each eligible student may purchase one discount-priced ticket per event. If students want to sit with friends, they should purchase their tickets at the same time. The additional 20 percent savings does not apply to previous purchases.

In case of rain on Sept. 9, the patio party will be rescheduled for Sept. 16. A grant from the University Park Allocation Committee makes Penn State student prices possible. The Richard Robert Brown Program Endowment supports the patio party. Best Buy sponsors the tournament.

  • Penn State alumnus Ron Jules, a member of Penn State's R.A.M Squad performing group, danced at last year's Center for the Performing Arts' Patio Party. This year's event is scheduled for Sept. 9.
