Professor publishes essay, named president of literature organization

A Pennsylvania College of Technology professor recently published an essay and assumed the presidency of an international literature organization.

Mark D. Noe, professor of English-composition, published an essay in the Summer 2009 issue of ANQ: A Quarterly Journal of Short Articles, Notes, and Reviews. His essay is titled “White Mulberry Economics in Willa Cather’s Nebraska.”

ANQ publishes incisive, research-based articles about the literature of the English-speaking world and the language of literature.

Noe recently became president of the Sport Literature Association, an international organization devoted to the study of sport in literature and culture. He served as program chair at the association’s conference in London, Ontario, this year and will be host when the annual conference returns to Penn College’s campus in June, 2010. He is also on the editorial board of the association’s journal, Aethlon.

Noe holds a doctorate in 19th-century studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Most of his recent work has concentrated on 20th-century American writers.

His published writings include critical essays and a personal memoir. They have appeared in a variety of journals and books.
