Swift greeted by sold-out crowd

A much-anticipated, sold-out performance by 19-year-old Taylor Swift rocked the Bryce Jordan Center on Saturday, Aug. 29. Opening for Swift throughout her Fearless Tour 2009 are country music group Gloriana and personal friend and recent American Idol contestant Kellie Pickler.

The tour, the first in her career, will make stops throughout North America and England, promoting her similarly-titled 2009 album "Fearless." During this event, Swift spoke to the audience about her experiences as a Berks County, Pa., native, and thanked the assembled thousands for their support and Happy Valley spirit.

The concert became notable for being the fastest-selling event in the Bryce Jordan Center's 14-year history, selling out in a mere 20 minutes, according to Bernie Punt, the venue's director of sales and marketing. The time is a record even at a location that has hosted such acts as Billy Joel, Elton John, Garth Brooks and most recently Bruce Springsteen. Tickets first became available on May 15 at all campus ticket sales locations, and at http://www.bjc.psu.edu and Ticketmaster.com.

Next in line to play at the Bryce Jordan Center is hit band The Fray, performing at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21.
