Naeher tabbed Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

University Park, Pa. — Penn State senior goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher (Seymour, Conn.) was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.  This is the second time the award has been bestowed upon Naeher.

Penn State (3-4-0) went 1-1 with Naeher allowing just one goal all weekend at the UConn Soccer Classic. In total, Naeher stopped 11 shots in 175 minutes of game action.

Naeher made six saves against No. 8 Wake Forest in a 1-0 loss, keeping the Nittany Lions in the game until the very end.  Next time out, she made five first-half saves stand up before Penn State went on to score three unanswered goals to beat Boston University, 3-0.

This is the fifth time Naeher has won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the second in 2009.  She upped her save percentage to .784, while lowering her goal-against average to 1.15.

The Nittany Lions will face James Madison on Sunday at Jeffrey Field.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. Admission and parking is free for all fans to every Penn State soccer game.
