Penn State-Illinois clash set for 3:30 p.m. kick on ABC

University Park, Pa. — Penn State's Big Ten road opener with Illinois on Oct. 3 will be regionally televised by ABC. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT/3:30 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Ill.

ESPN will air the game outside of the ABC coverage area.

The contest with the Illini (1-1) is the Nittany Lions' seventh announced TV appearance of the season. Penn State will be making its second straight appearance on ABC when it visits Illinois. The Big Ten Network has aired Penn State's first three games this season.

The No. 5/4 Nittany Lions upped their record to 3-0 with a 31-6 victory over Temple last Saturday in Beaver Stadium. Senior linebacker Sean Lee (Pittsburgh) was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his 12-tackle performance versus the Owls. Illinois was idle last weekend after opening the season with a 35-9 loss to Missouri followed by a 45-17 win over Illinois State. The Illini are in Columbus this week to face No. 13 Ohio State.

Penn State leads the series with Illinois, 13-3, including last season's 38-24 win in Beaver Stadium.

Penn State's match-up with the Illini will be its first road game of the season, after starting the season with four consecutive home games. The Nittany Lions will return to Happy Valley to host back-to-back games versus Eastern Illinois (Oct. 10) and Minnesota (Oct. 17) before traveling for three of their final five contests to conclude the regular season.

The kick times and TV for two additional Penn State games have been announced. The Nittany Lions' Homecoming contest with Minnesota will start at 3:30 p.m. and be regionally televised by ABC (ESPN outside ABC coverage area). The Lions' road battle with Northwestern on Oct. 31 will kickoff at 4:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on either ESPN or ESPN2.

Future Penn State contests may be selected by the networks under the six and 12-day provisions of their contracts with the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions have appeared on television in 180 of their last 182 games.

Coach Paterno's Nittany Lions will open their 17th season of Big Ten Conference play when they host Iowa in a nationally televised, primetime clash on Saturday (Sept. 26_.
