Penn State Worthington Scranton Students helping to feed the hungry

October 15, 2009

Penn State Worthington Scranton’s Business Club is spearheading a month-long food drive called "Stuff the Bus" in which they are collecting food and monetary donations from the campus community and the community at large.

The students’ goal is to collect/purchase enough food to completely fill a standard-sized passenger bus with non-perishable food items that they will then donate to The Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank. The students will then accompany that bus to the food bank to help unload the items. The food will then be distributed to various food pantries in need throughout the region.

The Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank has helped with other projects in the area, including another Stuff the Bus effort that is held annually at Bill's Shoprite in Daleville.

Collection boxes are located in every building on Worthington Scranton’s campus and will remain until Tuesday, Nov. 3, the final day of the drive.

Some local businesses are also helping in this effort by placing collection boxes on their premises. These local businesses include Mesko Glass, and St. Patrick’s, Holy Ghost, and St. Michael’s churches in Olyphant.

On Nov. 3 a bus will be on campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone interested in donating food is asked to visit Penn State Worthington Scranton in Dunmore and leave their nonperishable food donations at the bus.

Anyone interested in helping in this effort is encouraged to contact the Penn State Worthington Scranton Business Club. Both food and monetary donations are being accepted and greatly appreciated.
