HealthWorks students distribute healthy cookbook

October 23, 2009

Student volunteers from HealthWorks, a peer education outreach program within University Health Services (UHS), recently completed a compilation of healthy recipes for Penn State students. Recipes from the Cellar contains easy-to-make recipes created and collected by the students using fresh produce available at the Cellar Market.

According to Linda LaSalle, associate director for educational services at UHS, the HealthWorks students had two objectives in mind when they created the cookbook.  One, to help their fellow students make healthier decisions about food; and two, to promote an on-campus resource where students can buy healthy, locally grown -- and student grown -- food.

Copies of the cookbook are available at the Cellar Market and at the Health Promotion and Wellness reception desk in the Student Health Center. The cookbook also is available for download at

The Cellar Market is a student outreach project of the Department of Horticulture located on Eisenhower Road behind the Tyson Building and beneath the Horticulture greenhouses. Hours and an updated list of available produce are posted weekly on the Cellar Market Web site at

Additional information about HealthWorks -- including how to get involved or request a program -- is available on the Web at, or by calling (814) 863-0461.
