Field hockey seniors crack All-Big Ten Second Team

East Lansing, Mich. — Penn State field hockey seniors Laura Cahill and Bethany Marvel have been named to the All-Big Ten Second Team as announced at the Big Ten Championship banquet on Thursday evening. It marks the second consecutive season that Marvel has been named to the all-conference second team while it is the first recognition for Cahill.

Both team captains (along with Amy Bonenberger), Cahill and Marvel have served as a steady presence at back and midfield, respectively. They have both started every game this season in leading the Nittany Lions into Friday's Big Ten Semifinals where they will face No. 3 seed (and 18th nationally ranked) Indiana live on the Big Ten Network at approximately 2 p.m.

Cahill has one defensive save on the season, coming as part of the Lions' upset of 14th ranked Stanford on Oct. 5. She has been a workhorse in starting 82 of 83 games in her career.

Despite not recording a point on the season, Marvel has been a continued force for the Lions through her many intangibles. She has 21 points for career via nine goals and three assists. Along with her All-Big Ten Second Team honoree last year, she was also named to the NFHCA All-Mideast Region Second Team.

Along with their success on the field, both have been named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team and NFHCA National Academic Squad every season.

The Nittany Lions return to action on Friday at approximately 2 p.m. against Indiana, live on the Big Ten Network. Penn State looks to become the first-ever No. 7 seed to advance to the conference championship game.
