The Lawrence G. Foster Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) was awarded the Pacesetters Award at the 2009 National PRSSA Conference in San Diego.
It was the Penn State chapter’s first time to win the award, which honors the chapter that makes the most positive and memorable impact on society leadership, session speakers and other national conference attendees. Ten representatives from Penn State attended the conference where students discussed issues with other chapters and participated in a variety of workshops.
The award is voted on by chapter presidents and honors the chapter with the best spirit, unity and sportsmanship. The Penn State students demonstrated their blue-and-white pride and spirit throughout the weekend by wearing jerseys, shaking pom-poms and performing Penn State cheers.
“Winning this award is a true honor for our chapter,” said Dana Bubonovich, chapter president. “To say that the Penn State chapter won this award based on spirit and sportsmanship truly exemplifies our chapter’s mission and vision.”
Each year, the PRSSA strives to enhance students’ knowledge of public relations by providing students with professional development opportunities.
The Lawrence G. Foster Chapter, housed in the College of Communications, aims to develop highly qualified professionals looking to enter the public relations industry and serves more than 200 members at Penn State. It is the nation’s third-largest PRSSA chapter.
