Women's soccer team takes conference title

The Penn State Harrisburg women's soccer team captured the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament title in dramatic fashion, taking a 1-0 overtime victory over Keuka College.

The championship game, played at Penn State Harrisburg, gave the Lady Lions their first NEAC tournament title in college history.

The winning tally from sophomore Corinne Mazzotta (Haddam, Conn.) came with only 15 seconds remaining in overtime. Penn State Harrisburg held the 2008 conference champs to just three shots on goal during the game and none in overtime.

Mazzotta was named the 2009 NEAC Tournament MVP for her game-winning goal. She also scored one of the team’s two semi-final goals in its win over Penn State Berks.

The women's soccer program becomes the second sport at Penn State Harrisburg to win a regular season championship and a NEAC tournament championship in the same year. In just three years in Division III play, the 2009 women’s soccer team joins the 2009 women’s tennis team with this accomplishment.

Penn State Harrisburg finished their season with a 15-2 record, remaining perfect against NEAC opponents with an 11-0 record.
