Virsky Ukrainian Dance Company performs at Eisenhower

November 18, 2009

University Park, Pa. -- Leaping, spinning, vaulting and gliding across the stage, the Virsky Ukrainian Dance Company provided a culturally stimulating experience of dance and music for those in attendance at the performance on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

The 85-member company performed two acts of eight numbers on stage in Eisenhower Auditorium, backed by music and stage sets of Ukrainian cultural origin. While the full ensemble was prominent throughout, smaller groups of male and female dancers and soloists were featured on stage, performing in various kinds of dance derived and inspired by Ukrainian heritage, tradition and celebration.

The performance, underwritten by the Penn State International Dance Ensemble Endowment, is one of several on the company's 2009-10 world tour, officially sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Ukraine.
