The Neiman Marcus “Giving is Always in Fashion” Show and Luncheon raised a record $60,000 for Children’s Miracle Network at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Nearly 300 people attended the event on Friday, Dec. 4, at the Hotel Hershey. Kim Lemon of WGAL-TV8 served as the emcee. The event featured a runway fashion show, luncheon, and basket, diamond earring and Dennis Basso scarf raffles.
The money raised from the event will specifically support The Hummingbird Program at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, online at http://www.pennstatehershey.org/hummingbird. The Hummingbird Program was founded in May 2007 thanks to a generous financial contribution from Jeanne Donlevy Arnold and Ed Arnold of Lebanon. The Hummingbird Program is a consultative service that provides comprehensive medical, emotional, social and spiritual support for children who are facing life-threatening, complex medical conditions. The Hummingbird Program exists solely because of philanthropic support. Sixteen-year-old Megan Nickey of Shermansdale, Pa., a patient of The Hummingbird Program, spoke during the event. Megan has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a disorder that affects connective tissue and can cause dislocated joints, fragile skin and thin blood vessels. Megan has undergone several hospitalizations and surgeries at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.
“The doctors were not sure that I would survive through my hospitalization. It was then that I met the Hummingbird Program. The team was there to provide emotional support to me and my family,” Megan said.
