Faculty and staff can help prevent property theft

It is that time of year again -- the time for holidays and good cheer -- but unfortunately, it also is the time when Penn State University Police see an increase in burglaries and thefts from buildings at Penn State.

Over the past several years, offices that tend to have cash on hand and easily accessible portable electronic components such as laptops and projectors have been targeted by thieves. University Police encourage faculty and staff to spread the word within their departments to deposit and properly secure money and portable valuables. If materials can be secured in alarmed areas or easily transported, police encourage faculty and staff to do so.

Also use this time to make sure that alarm and camera systems are functioning properly. When leaving for break, do not forget to arm alarms.

If at all possible, the University Police encourage units to have local staff periodically check the on the office during the holiday break. University Police at University Park can be reached at 814-863-1111, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
