Penn College instructor visits South Africa, offers dental care

Rhonda J. Seebold, adjunct instructor of dental hygiene at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently returned from a People to People Citizen Ambassador Program trip to South Africa.

Seebold joined 37 other dental hygiene colleagues from across the United States and Saudi Arabia for activities that included meeting and exchanging ideas with professors from two South African universities and representatives from The Oral Hygienists’ Association of South Africa.

The group also visited the Teddy Bear Clinic, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that abused children are protected and rehabilitated, an HIV-AIDS orphanage, and the Philani Child Health and Nutrition Project, which includes a public dental health clinic. The delegation was also able to deliver patient education and oral examinations/screenings at three early childhood development centers.

Seebold holds a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University.
