Professor of engineering science and mechanics named AAAS fellow

Akhlesh Lakhtakia, the Charles Godfrey Binder (Endowed) professor of engineering science and mechanics, has been named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

He was honored for his distinguished contributions to optics in complex materials including chiral materials, and for the development of sculptured thin films as nanoengineered metamaterials.

Lakhtakia will receive a certificate and pin in February during the AAAS annual meeting in San Diego.

The world's largest general scientific society, the AAAS is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world. Founded in 1848, the AAAS serves more than 262 affiliated societies and academies of science.
