Boyer named interim director of entrepreneurship minor

Phil Boyer, instructor in engineering entrepreneurship, has been appointed interim director of the engineering entrepreneurship minor, offered through the School of Engineering Design, Technology and Professional Programs.

Boyer will assume directorship responsibilities as former director Elizabeth Kisenwether steps down from the position.

Boyer, who joined the minor in fall 2008, earned his master of business administration in marketing from Penn State and taught marketing courses at Penn State Harrisburg before coming to University Park. Prior to joining the Penn State faculty, Boyer was the founder and chief operating officer of Pilgrim's Oak Inc. His background experience also includes the following positions: director of occupational medicine for Geisinger Health System, senior account executive and strategic planner with APS Healthcare, marketing brands management with the Hershey Company and president of Golf Property Consultants.

Boyer will continue to teach ENGR 411 Business Basics for Entrepreneurs and ENGR 310 Entrepreneurial Leadership as he takes on his new responsibilities as interim director.

Kisenwether, who has been the director of the minor since it was founded in 2001, will continue to teach engineering design and will be working with the College of Engineering to broaden entrepreneurship education across Penn State. She will continue as the co-director of the Lion LaunchPad, an independent, nonprofit business accelerator for Penn State undergraduate students and will be working on a new intellectual property mentoring program for faculty.
