Two aerospace engineers win AIAA Sustained Service Awards

Mark Maughmer and Robert Melton, both professors of aerospace engineering at Penn State, have been selected to receive the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Sustained Service Award. The Sustained Service Award is presented to members of AIAA who show continuing dedication and contribute sustained, significant service to the institute. They will be honored at an AIAA conference later this year.

Maughmer was selected for his services in publications and technical activities for the AIAA, as well as his leadership of the Atwood Award Committee and unofficial advising of the Penn State AIAA student branch. He received his bachelor's degree and doctorate in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the University of Illinois and his master of science and engineering in aerospace and mechanical science from Princeton University.

Melton was chosen for his dedication of more than two decades as an adviser to the Penn State AIAA student branch and his position as an associate editor of AIAA journals. He received his bachelor's degree in physics from Wake Forest University, his master's degree in physics and a doctorate in engineering physics from the University of Virginia.
