University Faculty Senate to meet Jan. 26

The University Faculty Senate will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 26, in room 112 of the Kern Graduate Building on Penn State's University Park campus. The items below will be considered at the meeting.

-- The Senate will vote on a resolution expressing strong opposition to the early dismissal of classes by faculty prior to fall and spring breaks and at semesters' end.

-- As part of the University's recently approved strategic plan, all colleges and campuses are being asked to develop transparent workload policies. A vote will be taken on seven recommendations to guide the development of these workload policies.

-- Informational reports will be given on the Reserved Spaces Program, the 2010-2011 Faculty Census, and the status of University construction projects.

-- A presentation on the University's 2009-2010 operating budget focusing on some of the major budgetary challenges facing the University and the implementation of the new Strategic Plan, particularly as it relates to budgetary issues, will be posted on the Senate Web site at http://www.senate.psu.edu/agenda/2009-2010/jan2010/appb.pdf online.

Members of the University community are invited to attend this meeting. Any member of the University community not a member of the Senate may request the privilege of the floor on any item of business already before the Senate. Such a request must be made to the chair through the executive secretary of the Senate, at least four calendar days before the meeting at which the individual wishes to speak.
