Youth chorus, The Green Children collaborate for Haiti benefit concert

The Young People’s Chorus of Erie will be joined by international pop duo The Green Children for a special performance to benefit Haitian earthquake relief. The joint concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, in the Little Theatre at McDowell Intermediate High School, at 3320 Caughey Road in Erie, Pa.

The Young People’s Chorus of Erie is a youth outreach program of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The 127-voice choir performs under the direction of Jason Bishop, director of choral activities at the campus.

The Green Children is Norwegian singer-songwriter Milla Sunde and English multi-instrumentalist Marlow Bevan. Since meeting at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, they have toured Europe, Asia and the U.S. to support their nonprofit, The Green Children Foundation. The foundation funds microcredit, education and healthcare initiatives in developing countries, and is a founding partner of the two Grameen Green Children Eye Hospitals in Bangladesh.

“The Young People’s Chorus of Erie is very excited about this opportunity to collaborate with The Green Children on such a worthy cause,” Bishop said. “Both YPC and The Green Children share a special commitment to using music in the service of those in need, whether they are citizens of our local, regional, or global communities.”

Tickets for the joint performance are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and students ages 12-21, and $10 for children under 12. Tickets may be purchased in advance with a credit card by calling YPC at 814-898-6789, or at the door.
