Applications sought for University-wide Staff Advisory Council

The Staff Advisory Council in the Office of Human Resources at Penn State is accepting applications for both appointed and volunteer positions on the council. Created in 1995, the Staff Advisory Council is a forum for exchanging ideas about the welfare and development of staff at Penn State. Members explore University policies, procedures and programming that affect staff and make suggestions to the central administration through the Associate Vice President for Human Resources.

Appointed SAC members have voting responsibilities and serve three-year terms that begin July 1. Volunteers serve one-year terms and do not have voting privileges but are invited to participate with committees. Council meetings typically occur during normal University hours and are considered University business. The application form may be obtained at the SAC Web site (at http://www.ohr.psu.edu/sac/ online) located under the “Get Involved” link. The application deadline is April 1.

Throughout the year, the SAC seeks nominations for the SAC Staff Awards. These awards are given to University staff who act above and beyond their normal routines in resolving a particularly difficult dilemma or who have been exceptionally creative and responsive to the needs of others, whether they are faculty, staff, administrators, students or visitors. In 2009 the SAC Staff Awards were presented to Louise Sharrar, Cindy Capperella and Sharon Blouch.

Some of SAC’s most recent involvements include the participation in the development of two major processes that affect staff: Penn State’s Competencies and Staff Review and Development Plan (SRDP) programs; participation in the SRDP Focus Group; and continuing their tradition of providing an information booth at the annual benefits fair as a means to reach out to staff and hear their concerns and suggestions.
