College basketball analyst to present 'A Broadcaster's State of Mind'

Mark Tillmon, a college basketball analyst and former All-America basketball player, will present the keynote lecture as part of African-American Heritage Month activities coordinated by the Office of Multicultural Affairs in the College of Communications.

Mark Tillmon, a former standout at Georgetown University who works for Comcast Sports Net and CBS College Sports, among others, will present “A Broadcaster’s State of Mind: African-Americans in Sports Journalism” at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25, in Carnegie Cinema on the University Park campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

Tillmon was a standout at Georgetown from 1986 to 1990, and was named an All-American in 1990. After a brief professional career in he Continental Basketball Association and overseas, he retired from basketball. Along with his broadcasting work, he also leads a mortgage firm in Silver Spring, Md.

Along with Tillmon’s talk, the session will include a special presentation on the history of African-Americans in journalism, a performance by United Soul Ensemble and a poetry reading.

The event is presented by the Penn State Association of Journalists for Diversity.
