Nutritional sciences organizes talks on how to add vegetables to diet

The Penn State Department of Nutritional Sciences is organizing two informational discussions as part of National Nutrition Month, which is observed every March. Each discussion will focus on ways that people can implement vegetables into their daily lives. The events are free and open to the public.

On March 22, from noon to 1:30 p.m., Mary Dean Coleman-Kelly, assistant professor of nutritional sciences at Penn State, will be giving a lunchtime talk, titled “Vary Your Veggies: How to incorporate them into a busy life,” at the State College Family YMCA, in the Teen Center Room.

On March 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Kasia Kordas, assistant professor of nutritional sciences at Penn State, will be giving a talk, titled “Eating vegetables and enhancing your health in quick and delicious ways,” at Potter Elementary School in Centre Hall, Pa. This event is being co-organized with the Child Development and Family Council of Centre County.

“I realized in clinical practice that people know they should include vegetables in their diet, but the challenge is figuring out how to implement this recommendation into their busy daily lives,” said Lynn Parker Klees, instructor in nutritional sciences. Klees and Dorothy Blair, assistant professor of nutritional sciences, helped organize the two events.
