Build a brighter future for medical education at EdVenture 2010

At EdVenture2010 on April 8, the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center community will celebrate educational accomplishments, learn about changes in premedical and medical education, and help shape the education mission. Jules L. Dienstag, dean for medical education at Harvard Medical School, will present the 2010 Woodward Lecture, "Medical Education Reform and Premedical Requirements.” Dienstag will discuss the importance of emphasizing basic science and math principles in the undergraduate curriculum to better prepare students for medical school and his experiences overseeing changes in medical education and admission requirements at Harvard Medical School.

Other events include the workshop "Managing Obstacles to Change” led by Dienstag and the Education Celebration. The Education Celebration includes food and refreshments, posters highlighting educational activities, accomplishments and research of the faculty and staff of the Penn State Hershey Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, as well as ceremonies to honor the recipient of the Distinguished Educators’ Junior Faculty Award and to recognize the 2010 Distinguished Educators.

Events in the Junker Auditorium will begin with a boxed lunch at 11:30 a.m., the Woodward Lecture from noon to 1 p.m., and the workshop from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The town hall meeting will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The Education Celebration will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the University Fitness and Conference Center.
