Modglin earns honorable mention All-America at NCAA Championships

Penn State women's swimmer Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.) capped off a sensational freshman season this weekend with honorable mention All-America status in the 200 backstroke at the NCAA Championships. She reached Saturday's consolation finals where she placed 16th with a time of 1:56.19. Modglin also competed in the 200 and 400 IM.

Modglin swam in one race per day, with the championships starting on Thursday and ending Saturday. In addition to her All-America honors, she finished 29th in the 400 IM preliminaries (4:15.03) and 55th in the 200 IM (2:01.78).

The NCAA Championships mark the end of the 2009-10 season for the women's swimming & diving team, a season in which they went 7-2 in dual meets, garnered an impressive win over nationally-ranked Ohio State and swept a quad meet against Villanova, Pittsburgh and Maryland. Modglin was named National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week following the sweep.
