March 30, 2010

University Park, Pa. -- Vincent Benitez, assistant professor of music in the School of Music, recently published a book on the solo music of Paul McCartney through Praeger Publishers, a division of Greenwood Press. Entitled "The Words and Music of Paul McCartney: The Solo Years," the book is a part of Praeger's new Singer-Songwriter Collection.

The book is a listener's guide to McCartney's music since he left the Beatles in 1970, and includes examinations of McCartney's classical compositions such as the "Liverpool Oratorio," "Standing Stone," and "Ecce Cor Meum" (Behold My Heart). This book follows an earlier one published by Benitez in 2008 on the music of the French composer Olivier Messiaen, entitled "Olivier Messiaen: A Research and Information Guide" (Routledge Publishers).

Benitez is currently a Resident Scholar at Penn State's Institute for the Arts and Humanities.
