R. Randall Geering has been named senior director of business and operations for Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

In his new role, Geering is responsible for all college business and operations functions and physical plant duties. These primary roles include strategic planning; administering human resources programs and policies; and coordinating major maintenance and construction projects with the University and third-party contractors. He will represent the college in matters related to property acquisition and leases, and will offer advice and counsel on college operations.

"This is an important and multi-faceted position that is central to many different aspects of Penn State Behrend, and I am confident that Randy will serve it well," Jack Burke, chancellor, said.

Geering has been with the University for 12 years and with Penn State Behrend since 2001. Most recently, he served as director of Housing and Food Services for the campus, with responsibility for 18 on-campus residence halls and apartment buildings; food-service operations, including Dobbins Dining Hall and Gazebo, Bruno's Cafe, Clark Cafe and food cart operations; and the college's full-service catering operation. In this role, he supervised more than 350 full- and part-time employees.

Prior to this, Geering was the assistant manager of Housing and Food Services at Penn State Berks in Reading. In addition, he has 10 years of supervisory experience in food service and grounds maintenance.

Geering earned a bachelor of science degree in hotel, restaurant and institutional management from the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State. He is active in the Kiwanis Club of East Erie County and as a United Way volunteer for the college.

Geering replaces John O. Ream III, who retired from Penn State Behrend on April 30 after 35 years of service to the University.
