Used Penn State desks for sale at pre-Trash to Treasure event

May 17, 2010

University Park, Pa -- Two weeks before Trash to Treasure's big sale, Penn State's Lion Surplus is getting a head start by selling more than 600 used University desks made of solid maple.

Lion Surplus is managing this environmental effort, which will keep the desks out of landfills and find them new homes. Interested buyers can stop by from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 20 and Friday, May 21, at the Lion Surplus on-campus shop on Services Road.

The 24-inch by 36-inch desks are made of solid maple and are 30 inches tall. Their old home was in Simmons Hall, where generations of Penn State students used them to study in their residence hall rooms. One desk can be purchased for $3, or two for $5.

Lion Surplus also will be open during Penn State's annual Trash to Treasure sale. This year’s event begins with an early bird sale at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, at Beaver Stadium. The regular sale starts at 9:30 a.m. Bargain hunters can drive over from Beaver Stadium to Lion Surplus and see the large variety of used goods for sale.
