Duncan Fong named chair of the Smeal Department of Marketing

University Park, Pa. -- The Penn State Smeal College of Business has named Duncan Fong, professor of marketing, chair of the college's Department of Marketing effective July 1. Fong replaces William Ross, who has served has the Marketing chair since January.

Fong, a Smeal faculty member since 1987, has served as the doctoral program coordinator for the Marketing Department since 2004 and also holds the title of professor of statistics. He teaches business statistics and marketing research courses at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.

Fong's research interests include Bayesian statistics, marketing research and supply chain management. His research has been published in dozens of the top academic journals including the Journal of the American Statistical Association, Marketing Science, and the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics.

Fong is a founding member of the International Society for Bayesian Analysis and served on its board from 1992 to 1994. In 2000, he was named a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. Fong serves as an associate editor for the Journal of the American Statistical Association and is a member of the editorial board of Marketing Science.

Fong holds a doctorate and a master's degree in statistics from Purdue University as well as a bachelor's degree in mathematics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
