Reservations are now being accepted for the summer semester HRIM 430 Theme Dinners at Café Laura. Due to the large number of students in the class, meals will be served on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this summer, beginning on Tuesday, July 13 and continuing through Thursday, Aug. 5. Themes and menus are available at

Wine will be for sale by the glass and by the bottle. After careful consideration, this decision was made to provide the best and most authentic educational experience for our students. All aspects of responsible alcohol service, delivery of the product to the guest, and diligent accounting and inventory procedures will expand our students' knowledge and better prepare them for their careers in hospitality.

The dinners presented in HRIM 430 are designed to provide a hands-on learning experience for students preparing for careers as hospitality managers. Under the guidance of instructors, students are responsible for the planning, marketing, preparation, service and evaluation of the patrons' dining experience. The course provides students with an opportunity to test their management skills and form their managerial style.

The menus, designed by the students, are unique to the particular theme; food is purchased one week in advance of the meal and is used for that dinner exclusively. One of the criteria for the student’s evaluation is financial responsibility and the number of guests who attend, so it is vital that the forecast for the number of guests is as accurate as possible.

Therefore, if a guest cannot honor a reservation, call 814-865-1853 to cancel. This allows the students the opportunity to accept another reservation.

Last semester there were an average of 10-15 no-shows. This has an obvious financial effect, but more important, an impact on the learning experience for the students as well.
