Hershey Medical Center offers free smoking cessation session

August 04, 2010

Committed to improving the health of patients, employees, and neighboring communities, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center offers free outpatient smoking cessation classes starting Aug. 30. Building upon the inpatient Smoking Cessation Counseling Program that commenced in April of 2009, 12 respiratory therapists from the Pulmonary Lab and from the Department of Respiratory Care have completed the American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking facilitator’s program, preparing them to provide both inpatient and outpatient smoking cessation services.

The classes will convene at the West Health Campus on Monday evenings for seven weeks. Sessions will begin on Aug. 30 and Oct. 25. For 2011, classes will begin Jan. 3, Feb. 21 and April 11. Smokers do not need to quit prior to the first meeting.

Registration for the free smoking cessation classes can be made by calling the 800-724-1090. Quit the Tobacco Habit cards promoting this community service are available at Medical Group outpatient practice sites.
